An Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) is an online authorization tied to your passport. Visa-exempt foreign nationals normally need an eTA to fly to or transit through Canada. It is not a visa — whether you need an eTA or a visitor visa depends on your nationality and mode of travel.
Who is eligible?
- Visa-exempt foreign nationals flying to or transiting through Canada
- Lawful permanent residents of the United States travelling with the required documents
