Thailand visa exemption and visa on arrival explained
For short visits, many travellers can enter Thailand without applying for a visa in advance, either under the visa-exemption scheme or with a visa on arrival. This page explains the two options in plain language; always confirm your own eligibility with the official Ministry of Foreign Affairs guidance.
Visa exemption (up to 30 days)
Nationals of eligible countries can enter Thailand for tourism under the visa-exemption scheme for a stay not exceeding 30 days, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. No advance application is needed โ permission is granted on arrival.
Visa on arrival (up to 15 days)
Nationals of other eligible countries can obtain a visa on arrival at the border, allowing a stay not exceeding 15 days. This is obtained at the point of entry rather than applied for in advance.
Which one applies to you
Whether you qualify for visa exemption, visa on arrival, or must apply for a tourist visa depends on your nationality. Check the official Ministry of Foreign Affairs list before you travel.
