Iceland Visa Fees (2026)

Visa application fees for Iceland short-stay Schengen visas are set under the Schengen Visa Code. The standard Schengen visa fee is payable in the currency and method required by the relevant embassy, consulate or visa application centre. Visa fees are generally non-refundable, except in the limited cases provided for under the Visa Code. As of 09/06/2026, Iceland visa processing is handled by the Icelandic Ministry for Foreign Affairs, while residence permit fees remain handled separately by the Directorate of Immigration.

Standard Visa Fees (as of 09/06/2026)

  • Short-stay Schengen Visa (Type C): โ‚ฌ90
  • Children aged 6 to under 12: โ‚ฌ45
  • Children under 6: Free
  • Airport Transit Visa (Type A): โ‚ฌ90
  • Residence permit fees are set separately by the Icelandic Directorate of Immigration and vary by category. As of 09/06/2026, examples include ISK 80,000 for a first residence permit based on work, ISK 70,000 for a first residence permit for students, ISK 110,000 for a first residence permit for a spouse, and ISK 60,000 for a first residence permit for children. A D visa is not the same as a residence permit.

The Schengen Type C and Airport Transit Type A visa fees apply to short-stay and airport-transit applications. Residence permit fees and any D visa steps are separate and vary by permit category.

Reduced or Exempted Fees

Certain applicants are eligible for reduced or waived fees under Schengen rules:

  • Children under 6 years old: Free of charge.
  • School pupils, students, and accompanying teachers: Free for educational travel.
  • Researchers from third countries: Free when entering for scientific purposes.
  • Representatives of non-profit organisations: Free for participants aged under 25 attending events.
  • Qualifying family members of EU, EEA or Swiss citizens: may be exempt from the Schengen visa fee where free movement rules apply.

Service Fees (VFS Global)

Applicants applying via VFS Global must also pay a service charge in addition to the visa fee:

  • VFS Global or other external service provider fees vary by country, application centre and visa type. Applicants must check the service fee shown by the local VFS Global centre or official appointment provider before applying.
  • Optional services, such as premium lounge or additional assistance services, may be available at some centres. Fees vary by location and do not affect the visa decision.
  • Courier return service may be available as an optional service. The fee varies by centre, destination and courier option.

These fees are payable at the time of application and are non-refundable once service has been rendered.

Priority and Express Processing Fees

Iceland does not offer a guaranteed โ€œSuper Priorityโ€ or express visa decision service for Schengen visa applications. Some visa application centres may offer optional paid appointment, courier, document scanning or assistance services, but these do not guarantee faster decision-making by the competent visa authority.

  • Optional appointment-related services may be available at some centres, but availability and fees vary by location and do not guarantee a faster visa decision.
  • Optional document upload, scanning or assistance services may be available at some centres. Fees vary by location and do not guarantee faster processing.
  • Visa decision times cannot be guaranteed by optional VFS Global or service-centre services. The decision is made by the competent Icelandic or representing Schengen visa authority.

See Schengen Priority & Express Services (2026) for country-specific options.

Payment Methods

Visa fees and service charges can be paid using:

  • Credit or debit card (Visa, MasterCard, Maestro).
  • Bank transfer or cash, depending on the VFS centre or embassy policy.
  • Online payment may be available only where offered by the relevant embassy, consulate, VFS Global centre or official application platform. Applicants should follow the payment instructions for their application location.

Applicants should confirm accepted payment methods with their local centre before the appointment.

Refund Policy

  • Visa fees are generally non-refundable once the application has been lodged and examined, except in limited cases provided under the Visa Code. Service fees are governed by the terms of the relevant visa application centre or service provider.
  • Refund availability depends on the type of fee paid, whether the application has been lodged, and the refund rules of the competent visa authority or service provider.
  • Refund requests should be made to the organisation that collected the fee, such as the relevant embassy, consulate, visa application centre or service provider.

Additional Costs to Consider

  • Travel insurance policy meeting Schengen standards. The cost varies by provider, policy, duration of cover and applicant circumstances.
  • Document translation or notarisation fees (if required).
  • Courier, document scanning, optional appointment services and other visa application centre service fees may vary by region. Biometric enrolment is part of the visa application process; applicants should check whether any local service fee applies.

Tips for Applicants

  • Confirm the local currency exchange rate before paying the fee.
  • Retain your payment receipt as proof during tracking or appeals.
  • Apply early to improve appointment availability and allow enough time for processing before travel. Optional service charges do not guarantee approval or faster decision-making.
